Now I am not stupid, I know you do not have a strategic marketing team, a strategic planning team, and for that matter a strategic anything team. I know that everyone inside your business enterprise is much too focused on following through on what ought to be achieved right now to attend one more meeting or be happy about being put on yet another committee.

The truth is, even if you assumed a strategic management or strategic marketing team made good sense – you probably probably would not know how to put one together. And you won’t be likely to come across everyone around the business who understands much more about it than you.

A strategic marketing team, like many other working groups does not have to be complicated to set up and run as all that. And it does not call for anyone’s time and energy on a permanent basis, than yours.

Who are able to you get to be on your strategic marketing team? Who must be actively involved in the process and who can be relied on to supply the resources and viewpoints you need?

In the beginning select 3 to 5 business owners from inside your industry, people whose corporations are well outside of your traditional marketing areas. If at all possible some members would be like you, others older with more knowledge, and some younger with fresh perspectives.

Getting them on board normally requires just a little arm twisting, but when you offer to be on their strategic marketing team they’ll probably consent to get on board with you.

This popular article was syndicated across the Internet. It made sense to leverage its message by creating multiple versions of it and posting them here over time. You found this story by doing an Internet search, so Google likes it. Can you tell if this is the original or one of the versions created in ten minutes? Watch The Video Now!

Influenced by their experiences they will deliver advice to help you get moving on your strategic marketing – and you’ll reciprocate. They’re going to ask tough questions and provide welcome in addition to uncomfortable opinions from their points of views. Their comments will include shared experiences, industry knowledge along with unique techniques which have worked successfully for them.

Productive business leaders realize that when you make smarter conclusions you will get superior outcomes, and that their very best decisions are those made in cooperation with others whose achievements they admire and whose views they trust. It is universally true that once we harness to power of our peers, we make better decisions which are the steps to higher profits.

To start out the first, of many, strategic team sessions, you’ll be identifying specifically what you want to accomplish. You must be able to look down the road, beyond today’s fires, and picture a target that is both far enough to be attainable – this takes time you know, yet close enough to be important. These are strategic sessions not crisis identification and management – and yet there should be a level of urgency in the process or nothing will get done.

And from the beginning you have to speak freely to your group of peers, conveying clearly how the results achieved will be measured. Be prepared for some meaningful discussions around this process, accurately identifying and agreeing on your targets, benchmarks and the definition of success in advance is critical to keeping the process moving forward and on track.

If these items aren’t definitely arranged in advance the resulting excuse making will destroy your credibility with your peers and eradicate momentum from the process.

As the strategies develop and you take the results back to your company watch out for the agenda’s, hidden and otherwise of your staff. Every decision steps on somebody’s toes, at least a tiny bit and unless they are universally willing to set aside their internal issues and get together on the big picture, they can stop your progress dead in its tracks.

Every manager, supervisor, and employee has concerns about how these plans will effect them. Such things as cash flow, profitability, market share, employee satisfaction, and many other things will be impacted by the final decisions you and your strategic marketing team make. Be sensitive to their concerns and comments, Your people from the loading dock to the Board room must be 100% on board or all your strategic marketing team’s efforts will be a waste of time.

You and the strategic advisory team of your peers must consider how each element of your strategic marketing plan impacts your organization. This is an never ending story – your peer to peer strategic advisory team will meet continually. The topics discussed in these strategy sessions will expand to every area of your organization, creating a very real teams of advocates who will help you focus on your continued future.

A peer to peer collaboration process removes the number one problem faced by today’s business owners, making decisions in isolation with no one to trust to talk to, who will not hold it against them in some way.

Business owners who think strategically, plan comprehensively, and execute flawlessly will certainly outpace those who simply set goals and hope for the best. If you want to be even more successful in the future than you are today, a business to business mastermind group will show you how stay focused on what’s important to you, you family, and your business.

This is not MBA type information. To sell more of everything we offer we have to get in front of the right people. We must connect with those people who are searching for the solutions we offer, that are ready to buy those solutions, have the money – and are willing to buy them from us.

For anyone who is already doing that and want to be more successful the next step is a no brainer. Just see a lot more people. The most effective way to do that (the only way in fact) is through group functions of one kind or another.

When you get in front of lots more people, if most of them are the right people and you do so often, you will make more money. And the best way to do group events was over the telephone by means of traditional conference calls, Teleseminars, teleclasses, etc.

Now that most of us have high-speed Internet access, Internet conference calls have taken hold and are truly altering the way people do business and communicate with each other around the world. One can use them for sales and marketing of course. And as every successful businessperson understands, keeping the business you’ve already got is always a lot more profitable compared with making new sales – so Internet conference calls are employed for customer service, warranty details etc.

They’ve made communications of all kinds, internal, external, and with the media, easier and less expensive than ever. The truth is, today most profitable business owners can not imagine running their organization at the peak of effectiveness without using Internet conference calls. Let’s take a look at the advantages of teleconference services.

The Internet has shrunk the globe and has made it a global community. Folks from different corners of the world are able to get in touch with one another and do business successfully.

This popular article was syndicated across the Internet. It made sense to leverage its message by creating multiple versions of it and posting them here over time. Because you found this story by doing an Internet search obviously Google likes it. Can you tell if this is the original or one of the versions created in ten minutes? Watch The Video Now!

Currently it’s common for companies of all sizes to have affiliate business partners and freelancing setups in numerous countries around the world. In case of a meeting or a conference, previously one of the most wasteful expenses a business had, you can’t be flying from one country to another to meet everyone. It is expensive in both time and money, not to mention that going to meetings keeps you from doing what need to be done on a daily basis.

Instead, you can use Internet conference calls to communicate effectively with a number of individuals simultaneously. You can have a presence in a number of cities, or countries for that matter, and still get to your son’s ball game.

Internet conference calls can be easily done with the help of your computer. What you need is very simple – a relatively fast and reliable Internet connection and conference call software or service. Once you install the software in your system, it is very easy to use it, since everything is self explanatory.

There are a number of companies that offer Internet teleconference services. The costs tend not to vary to a large extent – they are more or less the same with all companies, as the competition is really intense.

By and large, the more people involved in a conference, the more they charge. It can cost you anywhere from $25 to thousands of dollars, depending on the rental service you choose. A onetime conference call will cost you very little while a long term rental could cost you a lot.

Even then, it is incredibly cheap when compared to the costs of flying to different countries around the world and meeting each other in person for conferences.

Some services offer a more user friendly interface than others, one that is push-button friendly. Some Internet conference call services provide step-by-step tutorials making the set up easy and simple so you will have more of them – it’s in their interest as well as yours.

There are two types of web conferencing – audio and video.

Audio web conferencing, as the name suggests, allows you to talk to each other without seeing each other. If the number of people is less, you can do it directly. If there are a large number of people involved in the conference, you can seek the help of an operator.

With video web conferencing, you get to see each other while talking. Using this service, you can network with any number of people you want. In large companies, it is very common to see video conferences with hundreds of people interacting with each other.

And recently services have come along that offer the best of both by adding Power Point to the more traditional looking conference call, will all the Internet related bells and whistles

Internet conference calls are the best way to interact with people for your business needs.

They are simple, inexpensive, and very effective. What more can you ask for?

<IMG SRC="http://www.wdm.net/images/office-photo.jpg" ALIGN="LEFT" BORDER=0">Most of us rely on occasional, often coincidental connections with our peers for the insights that could make all the difference. Conversely business owners who regularly integrate the experiences of their successful industry peers into their decision making process will certainly outpace those who simply set goals and hope for the best.

When we make better decisions we get better results. Business success is the result of continuously making better, more informed decisions. The best leadership decisions are those made in collaboration with people whose success we respect and whose opinions we trust.

When we harness to power of people we respect we make better decisions virtually 100% of the time. If you want to be even more successful in the future than you are today, a business to business leadership development mastermind group will show you how to stay focused on what’s important to you, your family, and your business.

Almost everywhere you look nowadays there is another seminar concerning leadership. Usually they showcase individuals with knowledge and abilities we simple mortals could never hope to have.

And given that it is such a desirable characteristic for businesses, the secret of leadership is usually pitched by self-proclaimed experts who would like to sell us their particular exceptional formula for attaining leadership success.

A great number of gurus, by way of their very profitable books and seminars – ones that association staff and meeting planners, along with corporate people and self-motivation fans are so crazy about – should really be referred to as motivation rather than leadership related.

There are also the mega leaders of limitless enterprises – folks whose names we all know who have lead their institutions to greatness or great failures – who’ll be glad to (for a fee) tell everybody tips on avoiding their blunders and leverage their successes.

Typically when you search through the unsupported claims you see elements of their leadership equation that you could not possibly reproduce.

The organisations they ran have in essense unlimited resources – if you throw enough money at an concept it simply might work, particularly when its cost is disguised . in vast budgets and it wasn’t your hard earned money anyway.

These types of Mega leaders get access to other folks at their level, they’re on each other’s contact list, people with whom to do the deals that made them famous – if not rich too. They know such well placed people on a first name basis that the rest of us could devote an eternity and still not get past the receptionist. They’re part of the club.

This popular article was syndicated across the Internet. It made sense to leverage its
message by creating multiple versions of it and posting them here over time. Because
you found this story by doing an Internet search obviously Google likes it. Can you
tell if this is the original or one of the versions created in ten minutes?
Watch The Video Now!

How come these leaders, popular fiction for normal folks like us, so incredibly popular? These kinds of leaders are charming, they are well spoken, and they ARE indeed celebs. And we all love our celebrities! Even though their tips aren’t going to be workable for us and only a smallish percentage of what they offer is transferable to us is irrelevant. We feel good hearing their story.

For many individuals leadership is defined by our experiences. We are emotionally charged by our personal perceptions when we are asked to define leadership; let’s admit it, leaders are always looked upon with glamour and amazement. Those of us who want to be leaders often just replicate the actions and behavior of business leaders we respect without ever being aware of what it really means to be a good leader.

A great leader carefully considers the input of their employees before replying. Your employees would like to give you their ideas, share their concerns regarding the business, and pass along information and general day-to-day chit chat. Be sure to avoid distractions and interrupting – even when you already know the solution. Always let your employee have their say, especially when you are already prepared to disagree with them – you may perhaps learn something that changes your mind.

And make certain to let your employee to complete their communication – you have to show respect for their ideas if you expect to receive their respect for yours. Everybody has a natural need to be listened to and allowing employees to finish their thoughts – frequently something they’ve put a lot of energy into, goes a long way in creating the respect you will need in order to lead.

Alright, so what makes a great leader you may ask? Are there any established leadership development recipes that can be replicated? Apparently there aren’t or we would have read the book by now and becoming a leader would be simple, if not downright easy. Let’s face it, if being a leader was easy – everybody would already be one and we would not be so consumed with learning the secret, the key, the shortcut to effective leadership.

The reality is of course that there is no single formula for leadership success. Needless to say when we add the human factor into any formula we have added unique variables into every possible equation. People are unique, situations are unique, and the circumstances of every business are unique. There are as many leadership development formulas for business leadership success as there are successful leaders.

So, what are the characteristics of an every day leader? If you ask anyone about leadership, what it is, how do you get it, and how do you recognize it, you will surely get so many answers, most of which are probably be right – that you would be no better off than you were before you posed the question.

A number of people naturally believe that leadership is a talent one is born with, some think it is a skill that can be acquired. Either way, leadership, particularly business leadership has a single straightforward and simple meaning.

In a nutshell, business leadership is the ability, however acquired, to consistently influence others – especially those who look to us for guidance. In other words, it is the ability to attract followers and influence their actions and attitudes at work.

The best decisions are those made in collaboration with people whose success we respect and whose opinions we trust.

It was 1999 when I presented the idea that “the Internet will be your bridge to the 21st. century” to three trade association audiences.

By then, thanks to an unexpected client engagement, I was already deeply involved helping a well established third generation traditional “brick & mortar” mainstream business leverage itself onto the Internet.

The presentation looks like some sort of prophesy in hindsight – as if I had some idea before its time. In fact my observations were just common sense based on my long experience helping business owners identify what was important to them and the future of their company.

Here is what I deduced from these business owners – what they would want the Internet to do for them back in 1999, that has become a fact today.

These were mainstream companies, with from 25-500 employees – companies up and down Main Street in every country around the world. Companies who employ seventy-five percent of the people on the planet want small business Internet marketing explained to them.

They have traditionally marketed their products and services, for the most part, within 100 miles of their business location. That’s the distance, historically at least, that their trucks could deliver there products to or service their customers, driving there and back during a business day. Beyond that there are additional fixed costs to consider.

They want to increase their market share in their traditional marketing area and they want to extend their marketing area by another 50 miles or more in every direction. Just imagine the additional profits of extending your marketing circle another fifty miles without any additional overhead – by using the Internet.

Successful small business owners told me they wanted to increase their “share of customer” meaning they want to be the sole source provider of products in their category that their clients and customers use. Why not get all their business – make every customer a Key Account and their profits per would soar.

They also want to make online sales and service a default part of the company – so at least some elements of their organization are in gear and running 24/7/365 – adding dramatically to their customer contact potential, at no incremental cost.

And they want to grow their bottom line with easier automated customer acquisition, increased productivity, reduced costs, and higher a sales volume.

Internet marketing for these successful small businesses is about doing a better more profitable job of doing what they are already doing.

With these expectations and many more – and with more and more companies getting online every day, I decided to create a blog style web site that would allow dozens of authors post their articles for small business success and I would write down my experiences as well.

The objective is to illustrate actionable strategies you can use to grow your business!

I hope you are think about the implications of what you read on my site and I also hope you will take a few seconds and post your comments for the rest of us. By sharing your experiences and insights here you will be adding to the richness of the conversation.

Considerable skill is required to successfully say to someone in a power position, “I want to do it my way instead of your way.”

Yet this skill is often needed by leaders at every level–whether you’re a three-star general communicating with a four-star general, a CEO with a board member or key investors, a vice president with your CEO, a teacher with your principal, or an account manager with your client.

History provides us with case studies about how to do this. One of the best involves a general–in this case, General William Tecumseh Sherman–saying “I want to do it my way” to another general, and his superior General U.S. Grant.

The background: During the Civil War, General Grant was under great pressure from President Lincoln and his Secretary of War to wrap up the campaign against Richmond. The siege had gone on long enough, and continuing casualties wer e sapping support for the war. Sherman, far away from these pressures in Georgia, had just completed his famous march to the sea, and had reached Savannah.

To gain overwhelming force against the foe in Richmond, Grant ordered Sherman to send his troops north on ships as soon as possible. Sherman, however, thought it best to capture the port city of Savannah before leaving, and then march his army north, destroying everything in his path. Capturing Savannah would be a huge psychological victory for the Union cause, and marching instead of going by sea might take longer, but would give him a chance to do extensive damage, a skill that Sherman and his army had perfected.

Sherman had also perfected his ability to communicate. When he learned of Grant’s priorities, instead of saying No to his superior, or challenging him directly, Sherman agreed to proceed north. But he also provided Grant with information that he hoped would change his mind.

Marching north instead of putting 60,000 troops on ships would take two weeks longer than sailing–assuming that enough ships could be found. That could be a big problem, Sherman reminded his boss. Finding and using that many ships would be a big drain on Union resources, Sherman pointed out. (Years later in his Memoirs, Sherman wrote that he estimated it would have taken ‘little less than a hundred steamers and sailing-vessels.”) In today’s language, Sherman provided his superior with a benefit statement for doing=2 0it his own way.

Now, here’s Sherman’s communication to Grant. Sherman stated that he had “initiated measures looking principally to coming to you with 50,000 or 60,000 infantry…” and then Sherman added, almost as a footnote: “and, incidentally, to take Savannah, if time will allow.”

What happened?

Grant agreed with Sherman. Sherman proceeded to take Savannah, and in a grand gesture, offered Savannah to the President as a Christmas gift. Then, Sherman marched–instead of sailing–northward.

Sherman used a technique that I have long recommended to those I coach. If you communicate with someone in a superior position, begin by indicating that you are completely willing to comply with their expressed wishes.

Then as diplomatically as possible, ask if he/she would like to hear your thoughts about alternatives. Usually, you’ll find that the medicine will go down easily if you begin by sincerely offering to cooperate–to obey an order. Expect resistance if you sound argumentative and insubordinate.

Think about it. If two of the most war-hardened generals in American history found it useful to communicate with respect and deference to one another, gentle persuasion can certainly be a useful approach for you.

We Get The Government We Deserve!

In business and in life there are things we can do something about and others we can’t.

Savvy business owners have a good idea which is which and concentrate on those they can effect, leaving the others for their conversations at the coffee shop.

There is no area where our individual influence can have more impact than politics. If we are committed, willing to speak our mind, and constructive in our input.

Our elected representatives need to hear from us. They need to know that we are tired of the political football game, where important issues are kicked around but never finally concluded.

We need to let them know how we feel about the job they’re doing, they are our employees after all. We must honestly and continually provide them with their job approval rating, at least as we see it.

We installed a government website search tool to help you locate, among other things, the contact information your representatives.

Click here and contact your state houses and Washington DC.

Tell them what you think about the issues, give them a perspective from Main Street, USA

And pass this along to your friends, get everybody up and down Main Street in contact with their elected representatives.

Do that and do it often and before you know it we’ll have a real representative democracy again!
